Federal Science eLibrary Pilot Project Final Report
Appendix B - Pilot User Feedback
Objective
To evaluate the impact of easy desktop access to a core collection of e-journals on pilot users (based on feedback received outside the formal surveys conducted during the pilot project).
Methodology
Communication between the project team and the pilot users was facilitated wherever possible. "Contact us" information was well distributed and many users sent email feedback during the pilot.
Results
The types of comments received were either general reactions to the Federal Science eLibrary or comments specific to the functionality and content of the e-Repository.
- This e-library electronic journal access service is great. Very useful in finding info & research, especially from a regional DFO office perspective. Also saves substantial time in searching for information while providing highly relevant search results. I have used this service over the past number of days and I think it is a great work tool & departmental asset. Only issue is that the service times out after 20 minutes or so*. Not a real problem. Hope this service will be widely available for future continued use. Thanks.

*The infostructure interface times out after 30 minutes of inactivity. Once this occurs, users need to log back onto the infostructure to start searching again.
- As I was just telling you this morning, I think that the new elibrary trial is just fantastic. It's nice to have access to the full text of so many journals. I'll definitely be using this until the end of the trial. Hope it lasts longer than that.

- As of now, the way I will likely use this application will be to retrieve documents after I search for them in Google or Google Scholar. I have not spent much time using this application to conduct a literature review so I cannot comment on the volume of papers available.
